13th Annual Midwest Historical Archaeology Conference

About

The Tippecanoe County Historical Association (TCHA) and Purdue's Department of Anthropology, Department of History, and School of Languages and Cultures will host the 13th annual Midwest Historical Archaeology Conference on October 13-15, 2017, on Purdue University's campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The theme is Reconstructing, Representing, and Reenacting: Historical Archaeology and Public Education. 2017 marks both the 300th anniversary of the founding of Fort Ouiatenon, a French fur trade post in Tippecanoe County, and the 50th anniversary of the Feast of the Hunter's Moon, one of the largest annual re-enactments of the 18th century fur trade in the United States.

Call for Papers

RECONSTRUCTING, REPRESENTING, AND REENACTING: HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLGY AND PUBLIC EDUCATION (MHAC 13)
DEADLINE: JULY 1, 2017

We encourage the submission of proposed papers, posters, and lightning round talks that focus on the preservation and use of historical archaeological data (artifacts, museum objects, buildings, landscapes) to reconstruct, represent, or reenact history for a variety of audiences and also welcome any topic related to historical archaeology in the Midwest. Because 2017 marks both the 300th anniversary of the founding of Fort Ouiatenon, a French fur trade post in Tippecanoe County, and the 50th anniversary of the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon, one of the largest annual re-enactments of the 18th century fur trade in the United States, the conference will include a session on Fort Ouiatenon past and present.

Please email a title and abstract for your presentation (paper, poster, lightning round talk) to Kory Cooper (hkcooper@purdue.edu) with "MHAC 13" in the subject line.
