Myths and Legends

sponsored by the purdue english department

June 10-14, 2019 - Grades 10-12

Myths and LegendsUncover tales of knights, dragons, pirates, & more, across a variety of genres and media (literature, movies, comics, and video games) from the ancient to the modern period.  Indulge the allure of all things marvelous and strange, as we discuss texts such as Beowulf, Le Mort d’Arthur, The Hobbit, Treasure Island, How to Train Your Dragon, Skyrim, and more!  Explore how the stories of legendary monsters, heroes, and villains help us define the boundaries of what it means to be human; how language itself constitutes a kind of magic; and how no model of heroism, charisma, and power comes without its complications.  Play D&D, handle ancient manuscripts, and enjoy a medieval feast!  Perfect for students of all stripes, this camp is sure to delight and instruct at the same time.

Cost, tuition, room, & board inclusive: $700

Instructors include Professor Dorsey Armstrong, Professor Shaun Hughes, and Professor Derek Pacheco.
