Lesson Plans for Narratology

THROUGHOUT THIS GUIDE TO THEORY, I have attempted, when possible, to draw from my own experiences teaching students the various theoretical approaches. The following two plans were attempted in two quite different classes. The application to Citizen Kane was part of a course entitled "Great Narrative Works," in which students examined "great" narratives from Homer through Achinua Achebe. The applications to science fiction occurred in an introduction to "Science Fiction and Fantasy." The former class was composed only of sophomore and junior honors students, the latter class was made up of juniors and seniors (including a small group of honors students).
