Inclusive Philosophies
March 29 - 30, 2019 at Purdue University
This conference aims to encourage diverse dialogues and provide a forum for philosophic work that is often undervalued by the canon or that connects the canon to broader contexts outside of philosophy ‘proper.’ In particular, we are interested in interrogating the concepts of diversity within the field (see Anderson and Erlenbusch 2017). Often diversity initiatives focus on increasing the number of underrepresented persons rather than on changing the field such that individuals with diverse experiences are included, interested, and welcomed. We hope that this conference offers a space for transformation, as well as an opportunity for thinking about how we can collectively work toward such change.
The conference is sponsored by the Department of Philosophy, College of Liberal Arts, Philosophy & Literature Program, Purdue Graduate School, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Department of History, Department of Sociology, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, Purdue Graduate Student Government, School of Languages & Cultures, Department of English, Center for Research on Diversity and Inclusion, and Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships.
