The Visual & Performing Arts department regularly takes bus trips to Chicago. Chicago is home to the Art Institute and other prestigious institutions, providing students an opportunity to engage with works of art studied in class on a personal level. Next trip possibly March 2017. Check back for information as soon as available.
Indianapolis Museum of Art
The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) is the fifth-largest art museum in the country. Boasting an encyclopedic collection of over 54,000 works of art ranging from Spainish medieval frescoes to contemporary installations by artists like James Turrell, the IMA is a valuable institution with a wealth of resources just over an hour bus ride from the Purdue campus. Please visit the IMA's calendar for up-to-date information about current events. Our next trip is November 5, 2016. Flyer is available here.
Excursion to Frank Lloyd Wright's Samara House (Lafayette, IN)
Located in West-Lafayette, Samara is an excellent example of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian architecture. Until recently, the house was occupied by the original client and owner, Dr. John Christian. We last visted the house on October 22, 2016. Flyer is available here.
The Haan Mansion Museum occupies a stately Classical Revival home, originally built for the St. Louis World's fair in 1904. This beautifully designed structure, with a grand central hall and oval-shaped well on the second floor, contains an extensive collection of Indiana art that included paintings, furniture, and ceramics, all displayed in rooms throughout the house. A recent special exhibition features cartoon art of Jim Davis. There was a field trip to the museum in the spring of 2016.
