Audio-visual, Interact, Object is a participatory workshop around hand-held improvisatory audio-visual objects that encouraged a conversational model of interaction, as well as movement in space.

Unlike most art exhibitions, an important part of this workshop is to encourage the participant to think about how to encourage others to play/perform and engage with others and to explore and generate sound, light and video interactions in their work. The intent of the artist being to engage the visitor with technology in a creative, playful manner, exploring momentary intersections of sound, light and image in the context of the work’s presentation. The participant will be immersed in an improvisational setting, which will serve to sensitize them to sound, light and video interactions. Video projection will be used as an environmental/ambient backdrop and provide a context for the exploration of the improvised and participatory work by the attendee. The workshop presentation will emphasize to the participant the importance of improvisation in creativity, listening and looking while making sound and light with others (a conversational model of performing), as well as exploring functional and perceptual models of interactivity. For example, the workshop will explore a communication model of interactivity where the participation centers on a “conversational” notion of engagement with materials and others in the setting. The workshop concludes with PASS CAMERA (RGB), a participatory improvisation with wireless camera, LED lights and sound synthesis and motion tracking in Pure Data.

N_DREW (aka Andrew Bucksbarg) is a media artist, experimental interaction designer, audio-visual performer and a professor in the Department of Telecommunications at Indiana University. N_DREW creates audio-visual performances and interactive works, exploring organic and abstract forms, live A/V processes and participatory technoculture, enthralling audiences with images, beats, ambient or noisy sounds and pixilated atmospheres.

N_DREW's work and interests reverberate in the space of interactive technology, media practices and theory. As an experimental interaction artist, he concerns himself with technologies and social systems that support tactics of ambiguous, autonomous social creativity and exchange.

N_DREW's work appears in museums, galleries and festivals internationally, including recent installations or performances in the Science Gallery, Dublin; Piksel Festival in Bergen, Norway; Sea and Space Gallery in Los Angeles; SoundWalk in Long Beach; Come Out & Play Festival in New York; Sonorities Festival in Belfast; and the Signal To Noise Festival in Vancouver, Canada. He received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 1999.
