Weave

Purdue's accredited Interior Design program provides students a solid background in understanding the interior design profession. The comprehensive curriculum emphasizes the design of code-compliant, accessible, and inclusive interior environments that address well-being while considering the complex physical, mental, and emotional needs of people. Students also develop specialized knowledge and interdisciplinary skills to formulate, communicate, and execute evidence-based solutions appropriate for meeting the demands of a globally diverse society.

The interior design program leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), www.accredit-id.org, 206 Grandville Avenue, Suite 350, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.

The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The BFA in Interior Design granted by Purdue University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). For more information about NCIDQ Exam eligibility visit: https://www.cidq.org/eligibility-requirements.

Career Opportunities

Courses in art and architectural history, building construction, and professional practice are complemented by field trips and presentations by practicing designers, forging industry relationships which develop into employment opportunities. The required internship or co-op course prepares students to enter this challenging profession with valued work experience.  Expertise gained through the program can also be applied in employment opportunities such as product representatives, commercial furniture specialists, and consultants.
