Xperimental

Concert Date – October 21, 2022 - 6:00pm and 8:00pm (seating is limited, arrive early) - FREE

This is a semi-formal annual student-directed dance concert created during the fall semester. This concert is open to any student who is willing to take their work through the mentoring process in September and October. Dances may be in any style, but should be new and creative approaches to dance. Choreographers are encouraged to be experimental in their works, trying new ways of creating, or perhaps a first-time choreographic attempt. We encourage bold experiments, and possible failure!! This concert is usually performed in the round. This academic year’s callout for interested choreographers, performers and crew is Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 8:00pm in Pao 1179.

Dance Xchange 2022-23

This totally relaxed and informal venue is for presenting dance that is in progress. Choreogrphers can try our their dance ideas by showing movement material to receive feedback. Positive and gentle feedback is offered by student peers, and sometimes faculty who are in the room, and everyone is encouraged to offer their responses to the dance. Dances (solo or group) can be in rudimentary stages, perhaps simply a nugget of an idea that is barely one minute long. Choreographers involved in other XSeries performances show their works-in-progress at Dance Xchange. We suggest coming to watch and support others, as well as participating as a choreographer or dancer. Contact Holly Jaycox at hollyj@purdue.edu for additional information concerning important dates and deadlines. Fridays at 5:30pm in Pao 1179. Fall 2022: Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Nov. 13. Spring 2023: Jan. 20, Feb. 3, Feb. 17.

Dance Xpansion

The XSeries second Dance Xpansion is in planning for the weekend of November 12-13, 2022. This event is a day or two full of dance classes, an opportunity for experienced dancers to teach classes and share their expertise in a dance style with Purdue students. This event is also a chance for the dance community at Purdue to take classes and try out styles they have not done before. Hosted in the lovely Pao Hall dance studios, this event is free, and classes are taught by volunteers. The 2021 Dance Xpansion had classes in techniques including tap, musical theater dance, Classical Indian dance, and dance improvisation. If you are interested in teaching a dance class at this event, please contact XSeriespurdue@gmail.com. Details about class times and dance styles for Fall 2022 will not be available until late October.
