In this icon, Christ Pantocrator is shown in the “State Church” form in which the fingers of his right hand spell out Iesous Khristos, the Greek abbreviation of Christ’s name. The index finger is straight, forming the I, the middle and little finger are curved into C shapes, and the thumb and fourth finger cross to form the X. Christ holds an open volume of the New Testament. The icon is covered in a silver riza that gives Christ an elevated halo and gold and silver robes. The word placed within a plain wooden case with glass frame lid (kiot).
