Award Winning Performer Comes to Purdue for Free Clinic

“One Oscar Shy of an EGOT”

Andrés Forero, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winning percussionist, will be visiting Purdue University for a free, public clinic (Wednesday, February 27, 7:30 pm, Nancy T. Hansen Theatre, 552 W. Wood St.). This general interest event, about 90 minutes long, consists of a multimedia drumming demonstration and a personable presentation about Forero’s life and career as a Broadway and studio drummer. Suitable for music lovers of all types, no musical experience or skill is required to enjoy the event.

Forero currently serves as pit drummer for Hamilton: An American Musical on Broadway and can be heard on the Grammy-winning original cast recording. He has also worked with Hamilton creators Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alex Lacamoire on In the Heights and Bring It On. He has recently appeared with singer Andrea Bocelli on ABC's Good Morning America. 

Forero’s visit to Purdue was arranged and organized by Purdue Theatre Professor Amy Lynn Budd after meeting the musician last fall. She and Purdue History Professor Dr. John Larson are co-teaching the course “Hamilton: History, Artistry, Impact” this spring semester. In this interdisciplinary course, Purdue students are studying the historic and artistic aspects of the hit show.

In addition to their coursework, the class will attend a performance of Hamilton: An American Musical in Chicago, IL this April, but are needing to raise $8,000 to make the trip.
