Sociogenomics

This academic year, we are proud to be launching a new area in Sociology, focused on the connection between genetics and society. The goal of this area is to deepen the inclusion of genomics in social science research and strengthen the incorporation of social science theory and methods in genomics research. To achieve these goals, we are also now in the planning stages to build a University-wide Center, led by Dr. Erin Dunn, a new faculty member at Purdue. The Center will serve as a uniting interdisciplinary hub, bringing together students, post-doctoral trainees, and faculty from across Purdue to exchange ideas, participate in training and research opportunities, and build community to achieve research excellence. A seminar series, open to all at Purdue, is being planned and will be announced. Center faculty include those in Sociology doing work at the interface between sociology and genetics (Dr. Evelina Akimova, Dr. Shiro FuruyaDr. Felix Tropf, and Dr. Robbee Wedow). As this Center will be transdisciplinary, faculty from other departments in the College of Liberal Arts, including History (Dr. Austin Cooper, and Dr. Kathryn Maxson Jones) and faculty from other colleges, including the College of Science ( Dr. Boran GaoDr. Matt Tegtmeyer and Dr. Geyu (Eric) Zhou) are joining as well. Any faculty member, trainee, or student with an interest in this area is welcome to join and participate in our planning process. Continue to check this site for updates about our activities.
