Jon Holstine is President of Holstine and Associates, Inc., a consulting and marketing firm, and has taught in an adjunct capacity at Fairleigh – Dickinson University, Baruch Campus (CUNY), Northern Virginia Community College, Strayer University, and the American Military University, where he is now a full-time Associate Professor. He has been an associate faculty member of The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, where he introduced a course on “Managing the American Intelligence Community,” which he has taught regularly since 1997.

Holstine is a public affairs professional who has taught at the university level and has served in a variety of positions with or associated with the government. After a stint in the Department of State and U.S. Information Service, he attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN, for a year of doctoral work in history. He transferred to Indiana University which awarded his Ph.D. in history in 1971. His areas of concentration included U.S. diplomatic history, East Asian history, Russian and Soviet Far East, European history, and international relations. He also taught U.S. and Asian history at Russell Sage College (Troy, NY) and Thiel College (Greenville, PA).

Holstine became a professional staff member on the House International Relations Committee, headed the Asia Bureau at the Agency for International Development, taught at the National War College, and was an investigator with the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. From 1994 to 1996, he served as a special advisor to the National Council of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava, Slovakia, dealing with organizational and procedural issues.

Holstine has been honored twice for service by the National League of Families of Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, received the Commandant’s Award for Civilian Service at the National War College, and was Teacher of the Year for The Washington Center in 2005.

He is an active and dedicated church musician, and in 2007 completed his Lay Certificate as a Church Musician at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He lives with his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Colburn Holstine, in Alexandria, VA, close to his two daughters, four grandchildren, and a nephew and his family.
