History

We’re proud of our legacy in the Brian Lamb School of Communication which not only goes back to the early days of our University but has had a monumental impact on the discipline of Communication itself.

The communication program at Purdue has a long, rich history. The first communication (speech) coursework was offered at Purdue over 100 years ago and the Department of Communication was founded at Purdue just over 60 years ago. The Brian Lamb School of Communication officially replaced the “department” on July 1, 2011 through an act of the Purdue Board of Trustees.
