Matt Charles is the new Online Graduate Program Director in Purdue\u2019s Brian Lamb School of Communication. With decades of experience in crisis communication, Charles brings a deep understanding of trust-building, media relations, and proactive communication strategies. His career has included high-stakes roles such as a special investigator in New York City and media relations director at the University of Virginia, where he handled major crises, including the 2017 \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span> Charles is the author of <\/span><\/span>Shit Show: An Unexpected Life in Crisis Management<\/span><\/span>, offering insights and lessons for crisis communication professionals. His global experience includes research in France and Japan, and he was recently appointed as a Fulbright Specialist for his work in communication and journalism.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span> In his new role at Purdue, Charles oversees online graduate programs in communication, aiming to expand virtual learning opportunities and bring real-world crisis communication skills to students. She holds a Ph.D. and C.A.S. in Educational Research and Program Evaluation from the University at Albany\/SUNY, with <\/span>additional<\/span> master\u2019s degrees in curriculum design, instructional technology, and educational policy.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span> Dr. Richardson specializes in instructional design and online learning, focusing on building community and engagement in digital environments. Recognized for her contributions, she has received awards from AERA, UPCEA, and Purdue, including the Mildred B. and Charles A. Wedemeyer Award for Outstanding Scholar in Distance Education.
