Our History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) was established in 2017 at Purdue University as a national research center focused on discovery, learning, and engagement utilizing the C-SPAN Video Library. At its helm was C-SPAN veteran producer, Connie Doebele, who served as CCSE\u2019s first Managing Director from 2017 to 2021.\u200b Under her leadership, the CCSE established many of its signature programs including the CCSE Internships, Pizza & Politics Debate Watch, Undergraduate Research Competition, Conversation with Brian Lamb, My Constitution Podcast series, and the CCSE Student Community. Since then, the CCSE has provided incredible opportunities for students including internships with C-SPAN for the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, exploring political communication through the Boilers Go to D.C. Maymester Program, and connecting students with nationally known guest speakers. In 2024, the CCSE welcomed two new programs to expand upon its dedication to experiential learning, professional development and academic research. The Summer Scholars Internship Program, a 10 week internship course introduced the next giant leap in the CCSE’s goals to bring students out to Washington D.C., boosting their understanding of civic engagement and developing professional skills in the heart of our nation’s capitol. The Video Research Institute accelerated the CCSE’s ability to connect with and nurture researchers from around the world interested in Video Research techniques. Incorporating the C-SPAN Video Library into the Institutes curriculum, scholars are equipped with the tools to elevate their work and broaden their skillset. Together, these initiatives solidify the CCSE’s vital role in fostering civic engagement and academic exploration for Purdue students and beyond.<\/p>\n

Since its founding, the CCSE has continued to promote the use of the C-SPAN Video Library in research and class instruction and provides training and course-ready video clips to faculty, researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students. The C-SPAN Video Library includes over 288,000 hours of content including video, audio, and text.<\/p>\n

Our School\u2019s Namesake<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Lamb School is named in honor of Brian Lamb, founder of C-SPAN and distinguished Purdue alumnus. He is one of only three Purdue graduates to have been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in acknowledgement for his service to the American people by promoting civic engagement and transparency in government through the founding of the C-SPAN networks. Lamb remains actively involved with the Lamb School, Purdue University and the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement.
