Doors open at 6:30 PM and the event will begin at 7:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/purdue.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_e4zmeQPj5e9xb2m\">registration<\/a>\u00a0is recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During this hourlong talk C-SPAN founder, Brian Lamb, and Medford will explore thought-provoking insights on African American history, the Civil War and Reconstruction, and US Presidents including Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. Medford will also share from her upcoming book,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">TRAIL: An African American Family\u2019s Generational Pursuit of Justice and Equality in the Nineteenth Century<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0which uncovers the struggles and triumphs of William Trail as he escaped enslavement in the South and navigated the judicial system to find freedom in Indiana.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Medford, widely regarded as a leading expert on African American history, President Abraham Lincoln, Civil War, and Reconstruction, has regularly appeared on C-SPAN and been featured in several documentaries including the recent History Channel series\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Abraham Lincoln<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. During her 35 years as a professor of history at Howard University, Medford served as the Associate Provost of Faculty Affairs, Interim Dean of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Chair of the Department of History, and the Department of History\u2019s Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs. She was also awarded the Distinguished Faculty Medal in 2021.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to her work at Howard University, Medford has written and edited numerous books, articles, and book chapters. Medford is the Vice President of the Abraham Lincoln Institute and a member of the Executive Committee of the Lincoln Forum. She previously served as the<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Director of History for New York&#8217;s African American Burial Ground.
