The Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) announces a major advance in digital research with the first-ever database integration of the C-SPAN Network’s Video Library into an online, academic library catalog.<\/p>\n
Purdue University, in announcing this collaboration with C-SPAN, becomes the first higher education institution in the world to integrate the C-SPAN Video Library into its central library database. Developed in a collaboration between C-SPAN and the award-winning Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies, this innovative integration represents the next step in multimedia academic research giving Purdue faculty, students, and researchers single point access to C-SPAN Video Library content as well as millions of books, scholarly articles, journals, and other materials available from Purdue Libraries.<\/p>\n
The C-SPAN Video Library, an integral asset of the Washington-based public affairs network, serves as a one-of-a-kind resource with over 275,000 hours of video, audio, and text content. This unparalleled record of American politics and public affairs offers a treasure trove of primary source material, including congressional hearings and floor debates, presidential speeches and news conferences, Supreme Court arguments, author interviews, public policy forums and lectures, as well as documentaries and special series.<\/p>\n
Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies is one of the largest academic research libraries in the United States, serving Purdue University\u2019s diverse academic community with a vast collection of print and electronic resources as well as special collections and one-of-a-kind archival records.<\/p>\n
The Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) housed in the Brian Lamb School of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts was established in 2017 at Purdue University as a national research center focused on discovery, learning, and engagement utilizing the C-SPAN Video Library. The CCSE offers a wide range of programs including the CCSE Research Conference, Video Research Institute and Video Research Workshop series as well as the Boilers Go to D.C. programs, Pizza & Politics Hot Topics, and the CCSE Student Community.<\/p>\n

Browning pioneered the inaugural national research conference dedicated to the analysis of data extracted from the C-SPAN Archives. Over the ensuing years, this groundbreaking initiative has culminated in the generation of an impressive nine volumes of pioneering research based on the wealth of audio, video and textual information within the C-SPAN Archives. This enduring legacy underscores the impact and significance of the conference in advancing our understanding of research using archival digital data.<\/p>\r\n This Summer the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) will continue this amazing tradition of scholarship engagement by offering the inaugural Video Research Institute (VRI). Led by the CCSE\u2019s newest team member \u2013 Dr. Bryce J. Dietrich<\/a> \u2013 the VRI is an invitation-only educational and research opportunity for graduate and postdoctoral students in all social science disciplines.<\/p>\r\n At the VRI, students will learn state-of-the-art techniques to analyze over 278,776 videos available at the C-SPAN Video Library<\/a>. Sitting firmly between active and experiential learning, participants will be given tutorials on the latest methods and work with one another on research projects to be presented at the end of the institute.<\/p>\r\n
