Biography
Jeremy Sklar is a visiting assistant professor in film and video studies.
Education
After studying acting at the University of Southern California and at Playhouse West under the tutelage of actor Jeff Goldblum, he completed a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College Chicago.
Experience
The Chicago native has pursued a career as an actor and filmmaker since age 15, starting his career at the Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theatre. He began his professional screenwriting career when Luka Entertainment optioned his screenplay Little Tokyo Ghost Story. Independent companies like New Films International, Vitamin A Films, and Topanga Pictures have purchased a total of six Sklar screenplays.
After working as creative development director for Strategic Film Partners in Los Angeles, Sklar wrote Freerunner, starting Sean Farris and Seymour Cassel, which premiered outside of competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and sold to more than 30 territories worldwide.
In television, Sklar served as segment producer and contributing writer on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell for the FX Network. As writer-director, his pilot Hollywoodn’t received consideration from the vice president of programming at HBO.
With more than 20 short films to his credit, Sklar’s current short film, Studio, won Best Cult Short from Cult Film Critic Magazine in its November/December 2017 issue. Studio is making the festival rounds, including screening at the Calcutta International Film Festival, and was the closing-night film at The Windy City International Film Festival.
Sklar is currently in post-production on his first feature directorial debut, Tom of Your Life, slated for a fall 2020 release.
