Office and Contact

Mercer Aplin is a passionate collaborator on a wide range of domestic and international audio and video system designs, live events, and theatre productions, specializing in audio system design for performing arts. His core philosophy centers on three key pillars: experiential learning, industry relevance, and fostering a collaborative community. Mercer advocates for experiential learning as the cornerstone of effective education in audio technology. By providing students with hands-on experiences, they not only develop practical skills but also cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Through immersive projects and real-world simulations, students gain a deep understanding of the complexities inherent in performance systems. This approach not only enhances their technical proficiency but also instills a passion for the field that extends beyond the classroom.

Drawing from his professional background as a Senior AV Consultant with Threshold Acoustics in Chicago, he aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application. By incorporating real-world case studies, industry trends, and emerging technologies into the curriculum, he equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the dynamic landscape of entertainment technology. This emphasis on relevance ensures that graduates are not only academically proficient but also industry-ready, capable of making immediate and meaningful contributions to the field. Mercer endeavors to extend his connections with industry peers, collaborators, and contacts to future students. He is enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to the growth and development of future professionals and looks forward to fostering a dynamic, enriching learning environment within the academic setting.
