Language Test Prep
Purdue supports international students with in-house assessments like ACE-In for undergraduates and OEPT for graduate teaching assistants. External tools like Study.com also offer prep resources and exam comparisons.
The Assessment of College English–International (ACE-In)
The Assessment of College English–International (ACE-In) is a locally developed, internet-based test used by Purdue’s PLaCE program to evaluate the academic English proficiency of international undergraduate students. Results guide decisions on course placement or exemption. ACE-In is also used in a pre–post format within PLaCE’s two-semester course sequence (SCLA 110 and SCLA 111) to track students’ language development over time.
Oral English Proficiency Test (OEPT)
Purdue University's Oral English Proficiency Program (OEPP) collaborates with academic departments to support international graduate students who are current or prospective teaching assistants. The Oral English Proficiency Test (OEPT) is a computer-based exam used to assess the spoken English skills of prospective teaching assistants. Test-takers answer questions, explain information, and speak spontaneously on TA-related topics. Responses are recorded and evaluated by at least two trained raters. A minimum score of 50 is required for certification.
