Arden L. Bement Jr. Award - Annual award intended for faculty whose recent research or scholarship has made a major impact in the pure or applied science or engineering disciplines excluding the life sciences.

 

Kinley Trust Awards (Grant)  - For projects that use a social science perspective to explore methods for improving the human condition.

 

McCoy Award - For researchers who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues.

 

Morrill Awards - Honor West Lafayette campus faculty at the rank of professor for outstanding career achievements.

 

New Horizons - Program that challenges faculty to create groundbreaking fields of inquiry that will place Purdue in the vanguard of new disciplines in the coming decades.

 

Lu Ann Aday Distinguished Research Award - Annual award in recognition of a member of the faculty who has made a major impact on their field or in interdisciplinary activities. The award is the most prestigious award given by the University in the humanities and social sciences.

 

Seed for Success Award - Recognizing faculty members who attract large sponsored research grants to Purdue University.

 

Showalter Research Trust Awards - Up to $75K for Purdue researchers for interdisciplinary proposals whose focus is establishing new research relationships and trusts.

 

Trailblazer Award - The Purdue University Trailblazer Award is an annual award for mid-career faculty whose recent research, scholarship or creative work has made a significant impact in their discipline. 

 

University Faculty Scholars  - Recognizes outstanding faculty who are on an accelerated path for academic distinction.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellows - The Humboldt Research Award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.  Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers is for research projects conducted within Germany only.

 

American Academy of the Arts and Sciences -  It is devoted to the advancement and study of the key societal, scientific, and intellectual issues of the day. (Nomination materials are only accessible to members of the AAAS).

 

American Antiquarian Society - for research in AAS library.  Researchers can be academicians or artists.

 

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows - A member whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished and who has been a continuous member for the four year period leading up to the year of nomination, may, by virtue of such meritorious contribution be elected a Fellow by the Council.

 

American Council - Research fellowships, Eastern Europe and Central Asia

 

American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellows - The ACLS Fellowship program invites research applications in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant.

 

American Educational Research Association Fellows (AERA) - The AERA Fellows Program honors education researchers for their exceptional contributions to, and excellence in, education research. The program is intended to be inclusive of the scholarship that constitutes and enriches education research as an interdisciplinary field.

 

American Philosophical Society (APS) - research grants for scholars

 

American Political Science Association (APSA) - Advancing education and research in political science

 

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation - humanistic scholarship, liberal arts and doctoral education and the performing and visual arts.

 

Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. Research Fellowship (Kennedy Library Foundation) - Research on Kenndy Administration's foreign or domestic policy.

 

The Bellagio Center - arts and literary arts residency in Italy.

 

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - major issues across the globe -- focus on women.  

 

Bogliasco Foundation - one month residency for those in arts and humanities in Genoa

Chian Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange - research projects in the humanities and social sciences with a connection to Chinese culture and society

Fulbright Scholars - The core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program provides approximately 800 teaching and/or research grants to U.S. faculty and experienced professionals in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

Humanities Without Walls - Cross-institutional teams working on research projects related to The Work of the Humanities in a changing climate

 

Jefferson Science Fellows - The Jefferson Science Fellowship is open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens. Selected Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year on assignment at the U.S. Department of State or USAID as science advisors on foreign policy issues. Assignments are tailored to the needs of the hosting office, while taking into account the Fellows’ interests and areas of expertise.

 

John Simon Guggenheim Fellows -  The Foundation offers Fellowships to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions and irrespective of race, color, or creed.

 

John Templeton Foundation - big questions -- morality, theology, science, etc.

The Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations for outstanding achievement in improving mental health.

 

The Gustav O. Lienhard Award for Advancement of Health Care recognizes outstanding achievement in improving health care services in the United States.

 

National Academy of Sciences (Members and Awards) - Members are elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive.

 

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships - The Center annually welcomes up to forty scholars from all fields of the humanities. Individually, the Fellows pursue their own research and writing. Together, they create a stimulating intellectual community.

 

National Geographic - conservation, education, research, storytelling and technology.

 

National Humanities Center Fellows - The Center annually welcomes up to forty scholars from all fields of the humanities. Individually, the Fellows pursue their own research and writing. Together, they create a stimulating intellectual community.

 

National Medal of Technology and Innovation - The purpose of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation is to recognize those who have made lasting contributions to America's competitiveness, standard of living, and quality of life through technological innovation, and to recognize those who have made substantial contributions to strengthening the nation's technological workforce.

 

National Science Foundation CAREER Awards - The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.

 

New Music - for musicians, especially composers.

 

Nobel Prize - The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden, and based on the fortune of Alfred Nobel, Swedish inventor and entrepreneur. Each Prize consists of a medal, a personal diploma, and a cash award.

 

Open Society Foundation - broad opportunities, fitting in with Open Society theory and values.

  

Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering - The Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering provides the nation’s most promising early-career scientists and engineers with flexible funding and the freedom to take risks and explore new frontiers in their fields of study.

 

Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program (Harvard) - Residency fellowship with Harvard.
