STAR Transfer Day Information

STAR (Summer Transition, Advising, and Registration) is Purdue's required orientation program for all incoming Purdue students. During STAR, students spend a full day at Purdue attending orientation sessions, meeting with their academic advisor, registering for semester classes, and getting ready to begin their academic career at Purdue.

During STAR, parents are welcome to participate in informational events while students will have the opportunity to take placement & advanced credit exams, interact with current Purdue Students, and ask any lingering questions about Purdue.

Students register for STAR online using the myPurdue portal.

Things to Consider:

  • Indiana weather is notorious for being unpredictable, so we recommend checking the National Weather Service forecast for West Lafayette before coming to Purdue.

  • Remember that West Lafayette, IN is on Eastern Time - the same time as New York, and one hour ahead of Chicago.

  • Construction update around West Lafayette and campus.

Meeting Your Advisor

Throughout their time at Purdue, each student is assigned an advisor who will mentor them and help them navigate classes, registration, internships, study abroad, and scheduling issues. Our advisors are knowledgable in the courses and plans of study necessary to propel students forward and help them acheive a successful college career.

Students and advisors meet for the first time during STAR orientation in order to select classes for the upcoming semester. During each semester, students will continue to meet with their advisor to schedule classes and ask any questions or seek advice.

Liberal Arts academic advisors can be contacted via phone & email, and are available to meet with students in person. To schedule a meeting with an advisor, go to the Liberal Arts Advising office in Beering Hall (BRNG) room 1114. Click here for the Liberal Arts advising directory.
