Project Engineering Intern, Gaylor Electric

1.) How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

I learned about this internship opportunity through LinkedIn.

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?

The internship helped me understand that school will not be able to teach you everything you need to know, but it will prepare you. When I first started my internship, I was a little lost because I had never learned how to do take-offs and estimations, but as time passed, I got better at it. I learned the importance of asking questions and reaching out and this ultimately helped me build on technical skills, but also soft skills like communication skills.

3.) How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills into your internship?

I use my Liberal Arts skills all the time. Because I work at an electric construction company, money is an important factor when making estimations for bidding. My economics classes definitely helped me get a better understanding of all the numbers and what a business does to maximize profit.

4.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone looking for an internship?

Look for all opportunities: online or in-person. Any small interactions you make, every application you submit will come in handy in a future. Even if you aren't sure if you might be fit for the job, submit that application and let the company decide!
