Internships: Public Service Announcement Coordinator for WBAA Radio and Research and Communication Intern for the Center of the Environment in Discovery Park

Student Story: Sid is an international student who turned to the CLA Career Center early in his academic career. Working alongside Mike Mullis, Sid was able to decide which major to choose in the Lamb school and to utilize resources to improve his resume, network, and prepare for interviews-all of which have made him better equipped to pursue a successful and meaningful career. We encourage you to follow in Sid’s footsteps and think about careers early and often.

Internship: Public Policy Intern, American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU Missouri 

Student Story: "I walked into the CLA career center asking to just get basic help on how to write my resume. Little did I know my one appointment with Amanda Galloway, would be a stepping stone to me receiving an internship at the ACLU of Missouri. Working at the ACLU was a huge deal for me and is a big step towards the career I want. The CLA career center helped me each step of the way, and I'm thankful for all the services and opportunities they provide the Liberal Arts students to help achieve their future goals."

Student Story: “Prior to my graduation, I was searching for marketing positions and learned about CLA Corporate Partner, TechPoint, through CLA’s Career Services Manager, Mike Mullis.  Using the TechPoint network, I was able to find a full-time marketing position in the tech industry with Mesh Systems in Carmel, IN.”

Student Story: “I attended the Industrial Roundtable career fair last fall, which ultimately resulted in me receiving a job offer from Lockheed Martin- a global security and aerospace company and the world’s largest defense contractor. 

My Purdue Liberal Arts education, participation in students orgs., and advice from the CLA Career Center were instrumental in helping me land this dream job.

Showing fellow students that Liberal Arts grads have a place in any industry. That’s my giant leap.”

Future Employer/Job Title:  American Lawn Mower - Product Manager & Partner Relations

Student Story: “While my liberal arts degree has undoubtedly made me a better writer, communicator, and researcher, I wanted a job that would encourage me to utilize the technical skills that I had developed outside of class.

I turned to the CLA Career Center because I didn’t know how to present my unique skill set to a company looking for a job candidate with a stem degree. Talking to the CLA Career Advisor, Mike Mullis, helped me formulate how I could market myself towards employers as a desirable combination of both soft and technical skills. Using what I learned at the CLA Career Center, I was to land an awesome job that was intended for candidates with stem degrees only.”

Student Organizations: Purdue University Dance Marathon – Riley Hospital for Children

Internships: Global Alliance intern, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Student Story: “I am proud to have worked for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and to have played a small role in ensuring that one day future generation may know a world without cancer or disease.  It was an honor to have worked alongside some of the best and brightest in the healthcare and nonprofit industries. 

My internship was made possible, in part, by the Job Ready award I received from the College of Liberal Arts.  The funding I received allowed me to pursue this dream internship that has also helped prepare me for future employment.” Since graduation, Simi is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Marketing at Krannert.

Student Story: “I met with Mike in the Career Center many times to talk about resume tips, cover letters, interview techniques, and how to decide what kind of job would be a fit for me. I was also given leadership opportunities by the CLA Career Center to lead panel discussions, help other students with their resumes and cover letters, and generally become proficient in new skills that I'll need in my career. Using what I learned from my experiences with the career center, I was able to secure multiple internships, and find my first full-time job!”
