Kelsey spent summer 2015 abroad in New York City, Paris, and Amsterdam. She joined Purdue's Liberal Arts study abroad "Sex, History, and the Cities". Kelsey stated, "I got to study sexuality, become an activist, visit world-renowned museums, see a Broadway show, meet famous historians and activists, and travel to New York City, Paris, and Amsterdam, all while earning six credits toward my LGBT Studies minor."
The study abroad trip was a whirlwind of newfound friendship, knowledge, and experiences for Kelsey. She stated, "I really loved getting my first taste of activism." While in New York City, Kelsey's class had an opportunity to closely work with the ACT UP – AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, an organization established in 1987 to fight the AIDS crisis. Purdue students attended a chapter meeting, met and networked with members, and hosted a session dedicated to brainstorming how ACT UP can prevent HIV and other STI's on campus. 
During the visit, the ACT UP - AIDS Coalition had planned a demonstration in support of sexual health of residents of the Chelsea borough. Kelsey, "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience marching outside City Hall with such inspiring and important activists. This was an incredibly empowering moment for me, realizing what it felt like to stand up and fight for something that I believe in."
Because of her summer experience, she has become an activisit and she is looking for her next opportunity to get behind her passion. Not only did Kelsey make new friends, but she learned about life, culture, and history. Kelsey stated "...I will always be grateful to Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts for providing me with this opportunity."
