Class Title: Modern Family

Class Description: Why do families today typically have fewer children than families in past generations? Why are young people waiting so long these days to get married? And why is managing the competing expectations of work and family such a challenge? This lecture will explore these issues by placing the family in historical context and tracing the societal shifts that have influenced the structure, practices, and meanings of modern families.
