William H. And Ruth E. Crouse Scholarship for Graduate Internship in Academic Publishing

Deadline: February 15

Amount: up to $2,000

Criteria for Eligibility:

Internship

The Professional Writing Program offers two scholarship awards of at least $2,000 to provide a Professional Writing undergraduate major the opportunity to help support academic publishing, either producing an academic journal, like Peitho, the journal published under the auspices of the Coalition of Women Scholars in the History of Rhetoric & Composition, to develop and maintain digital content for an academic organization, and/or to provide support for digital and social media for a scholarly and/or academic organization. Specific duties will be discussed at the time of award and students should address experiences relevant to academic publishing in their letter of application. Students from both tracks of the Professional Writing major—Writing & Publishing and Technical Writing—are eligible for the award. This scholarship, funded by a generous endowment from William H. and Ruth E. Crouse, is designed to support students of exceptional ability and promise as they gain experience in current activities common in academic publishing. Students may also be awarded course credit (e.g., ENGL 589, 590, or equivalent) depending on the number of hours worked. Applications are judged by a committee composed of faculty in Professional Writing at Purdue as well as professionals in the publishing industry. Applicants for the award are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement and potential, an application letter, a resume, and a portfolio of work.
