GAZE: In feminist film criticism, this term usually refers to the predominantly male gaze of Hollywood cinema, which tends to objectify women. Feminist critics examine carefully the ways that camera angles and film editing tends to focalize women as objects perceived by voyeuristic men. See also scopophilia. The term is influenced by both Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis.
