Carol Cunningham-Sigman, Professor of Dance, joined the Purdue University faculty in 1983 and served as Division of Dance Chair 1991-2015. Dance making, performance production and directing are central to Carol's daily focus on campus. She has enjoyed a significant history of collaborative performance work that integrates her choreography with real-time interactive motion capture technology and multi-site telematic access grid performance. Carol and a team of multi-disciplinary artists and technologists were invited to present such a work Labcoats on Clouds at the recent Prague Quadrennial. Carol's computer-generated dance work has also been presented at SIGGRAPH conferences and she has published a co-authored article, Mixing Dance Realities: Collaborative Development of Live Motion Capture in a Performing Arts Environment, in the Computers in Entertainment journal. Carol has had several works recognized for choreographic achievement. These works include Glass Corridors, which was performed at the Kennedy Center American College Dance Festival National Gala; Stone in Palm, selected for exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; and It Never Entered My Mind, a solo Carol performed at the Almada International Dance Festival, Lisbon, Portugal. Carol is an award-winning educator, and was a 2015 recipient of the Charles B. Murphy Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching, Purdue University's highest undergraduate teaching honor. Carol teaches modern technique, ballet, choreography, performance workshop, and also has taught dance appreciation for Purdue University's Study Abroad Program at Oxford University, UK. She has guest taught at Heidelberg University, Germany, National Dance Association conferences, and numerous American College Dance Association Festivals. Prior to coming to Purdue University Carol taught at Sam Houston State University, TX, Ripon College, WI, and the Giordano Dance Center, Chicago. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Dance at the University of Illinois.
