Italian
The Italian Program at Purdue brings together courses in Italian Language and Culture, History, Design, Art, and Performance to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the impact of Italian culture and history on the world today. Our degree program builds student proficiency in every aspect of Italian Studies: language and communication, culture and intercultural competence, literature, film, and media. In collaboration with Purdue’s CILMAR, our Program offers students systematic training in intercultural communicative competence.
The Italian Program offers individualized attention and mentoring by our approachable faculty. We strive to accommodate the needs of all of our undergraduate students: those who take just a few semesters of Italian, those who pursue a Minor in Italian, a Major in Italian Studies, or the Certificate of Achievement in Italian and Intercultural Communicative Competence, as well as Degree + and GEARE students who choose to combine their STEM major with their passion for Italian.
Our Program fosters an intimate liberal arts college experience and a sense of community within a large university setting. Italian students have access to an immersive Study Abroad Program in Trieste (Italy), as well as scholarships, internships, and research opportunities. Students, faculty, and Italophiles on campus and in the Greater Lafayette area can engage in numerous events that include cooking classes, talks, card tournaments, the weekly Italian Coffee Hour, and more. All students, regardless of whether they take Italian classes, are welcome to join the Italian Club.
