Biography:

Hsuen-Chi (Hazel) is a PhD candidate in Communication at Purdue University, specializing in Media, Technology and Society under the guidance of Dr. Jeremy Foote. She holds a Master of Science in Media Science from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan. Her academic interests center on computer-mediated communication (CMC), online privacy management, and human-computer interaction (HCI), with a focus on how digital technologies shape human behavior and interactions in online environments.

 

Research and Teaching:

Hsuen-Chi’s current research explores human-AI communication, particularly how individuals manage privacy when interacting with AI chatbots. She also investigates interventions for online compulsive buying behaviors, employing user-centered approaches to develop effective strategies. Her work contributes to understanding the dynamics of human interaction with digital technologies in various contexts.

In her earlier work, she has contributed to studies on multiple profile management on social media and the posting behaviors of faceless selfies, examining how these practices impact users' self-presentation and well-being. Her research has gained recognition, with her first-authored paper winning the Top Paper Award from the Communication and Technology Division at ICA 2024. She has also presented her work at prestigious conferences such as ICA and CSCW.

In her teaching career, Hsuen-Chi has experience as both a graduate teaching assistant and stand-alone instructor. She has taught courses including Introduction to Advertising, Introduction to Communication Theories, Principles of Persuasion, and Fundamentals of Speech Communication.
