Biography

Alexis is an MA student studying Health and Risk Communication. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in General Communication with minors in Sociology and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies from Purdue University in May 2024.

Research and Teaching

Alexis’ research interests are focused on creating healthcare messaging and systems for sex workers to receive medical care, despite the stigma surrounding the identity. Alexis uses theories such as Communication Privacy Management (CPM) Theory and Communication Accommodation Theory to navigate the boundaries that sex workers often have.

During Alexis’ undergraduate career, she was a Teaching Assistant in the Sociology department for SOC 100 (Introductory Sociology) and SOC 461 (Health and Social Behavior). Alexis was awarded with the Bruce Kendall Award for Excellence in April 2024 in her undergraduate studies as well as the Laura G. & George P. McDowell and Charles Ray Gilliam Memorial Scholarship in April 2023. Currently, she teaches COM 114 (Fundamentals of Speech Communication) and works in the Purdue Presentation Center.

Alexis is also very proud to be active in the Greater Lafayette community, volunteering with the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette as the Membership Director and as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate).
