Diana Deyoe is a doctoral student in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. Diana earned her Master’s of Science in Communication from Purdue University in 2022. Her thesis titled “Tolerated, Muted, Removed: A Study of Preexisting Relationships Across Political Lines on Social Media Using SIDE, the Investment Model, and the Model of Accommodation” was recognized as the 2022 Purdue College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Master’s Thesis. Before attending Purdue, Diana earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Communication degree with a minor in Informatics from Indiana University. Diana has professional experience in career advising and behavioral counseling.
Research and Teaching
Diana’s research focuses on social media, interpersonal relationships, and politics. Specifically, she is interested in how people engage with social media platforms through features and affordances and how this engagement impacts relationships online and in person. In one of her current projects, Diana seeks to better understand parasocial relationship development online (one-way relationships between an individual and a mediated persona). She hopes to extend theorization on parasocial relationships by merging interpersonal theory and parasocial literature. Diana is a qualitative researcher who utilizes textual analysis and interview methods.
Outside of research, Diana is passionate about fostering inclusive and engaging learning environments in higher education. Diana has been instructor of record for many courses during her time at Purdue University including COM 212: Approaches to the Study of Interpersonal Communication, COM 318: Principles of Persuasion, and COM 325: Interviewing Principles and Practices. Diana has served her department as the Communication Graduate Student Association President, and her contributions were recognized with the 2024 Brian Lamb School of Communication Service Award. Diana hopes to continue her teaching and research pursuits as a faculty member after graduation.
