Haiyan Li

Dr. Haiyan Li is a Continuing Lecturer in the Purdue Language and Culture Exchange Program and a Limited-Term Lecturer in Literacy and Language Education at Purdue University. She earned her Ph.D. in Literacy and Language Education from Purdue, where her dissertation received the Mary Kay Sommers Award. Her teaching and research focus on multilingualism, biliteracy, TESOL, literacy instruction, and generative AI in language education and academic writing. Her work has appeared in TESOL Quarterly, Language Policy, and Journal of Language, Identity & Education. She is the co-author of English Learner Literacy in Elementary Schools (Emerald Publishing, 2026) and co-author of AI as a Disciplinary Mirror: Historical Futures for Applied Linguistics (John Benjamins, forthcoming). She received Purdue University's Innovation Hub Award for her work on AI-integrated pedagogy. She serves on the editorial boards of Indiana Literacy Journal and INTESOL Journal and is Chair of the TESOL Computer-Assisted Language Learning Interest Section (CALL-IS) and Associate Coordinator of the Language and Technology Strand at AAAL.
