Summary: This research project investigates the production, dissemination, and impact of gendered knowledge within multilateral development banks (MDBs) and the influence of ideas on international development financing and programming. Through comparative qualitative case studies of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, this study employs process tracing techniques, including document analysis and elite interviewing, to assemble and explore how gendered knowledge is created and its impact on governance practices through intra- and inter-organizational relationships. Using an epistemic practice approach with a Feminist lens underscores the intricate link between politics and expertise, highlighting knowledge hierarchies and meaning-making within orthodox neoliberal logic.
