Biography:
Inusah Mohammed is a doctoral student at the Brain Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. He has over a decade of experience in community organization and localized politics in marginalized communities in Ghana. Inusah’s research revolves around the practices and influence of media and political participation. Specifically, Inusah focuses on how citizens of developing countries use social media to participate in their democracies and discuss issues concerning their well-being. He also studies how the media frames influential figures in Africa and cover events such as crises to evaluate their broader implications.
Inusah has presented his work at conferences such as the International Communication Association (ICA), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the National Communication Association (NCA), and Western States Communication Association (WSC) conferences. Inusah’s work appeared in the Newspaper Research Journal.
Research and Teaching:
Inusah has taught a range of courses as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. The undergraduate classes he has taught include nonverbal communication, interpersonal communication, persuasive communication, and several sessions on public speaking, including specialized ones like public speaking in STEM or public speaking in healthcare. His outstanding teaching credentials got him nominated twice for Susan Deese-Roberts Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Inusah strove to overcome the challenges of his circumstances to reach where he is today. This background shapes his approach to work and research activities as he does things with urgency and passion.
Before completing his master’s degree, Inusah worked as a Service Advisor with CFAO Ghana Limited (an international automobile) and as an Advert officer with Graphic Communications Group limited (Ghana’s most prominent media house) as well as a Columnist in the Business & Financial Times (Ghana’s biggest Business newspaper). Inusah’s commitment to service got him the 2023 Doris Gregory Memorial Scholarship Award (Graduate student Winner) of the New Mexico Press Women.
