About
Dr. Renée Gaarder is the Academic Program Manager for the College of Liberal Arts as well as the CLA Scholarship Coordinator and Schedule Deputy for the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts program.
Renée received her Ph.D. in History from Purdue University in December of 2019. She holds a B.A in Music History and Literature from the University of Idaho, an M.A. in Musicology from Brigham Young University (Thesis: Schumann’s Op. 25: Finding the Narrative Within), and an M.A. in History from Purdue University. Her current research focuses on the intersections between music, popular culture, and identity formation. Her dissertation (Made in America: The Federal Music Project in the Midwest) explores how the Federal Music Project functioned in the Midwestern region to create greater musical literacy while helping to define American national identity from the 1930s-1940s.
