William Rater is an MA student in the Purdue Department of History. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Purdue University in 2024. His research interests are in the Cold War, imperialism, and decolonization. He has a particular interest in East Germany, the proxy wars of the Cold War, and other decolonization conflicts. As an undergraduate student, he completed a thesis on the Indonesian independence movement as a part of the Purdue History Honors program. He is involved in Purdue Bands and Orchestras and plays in a variety of ensembles and pep bands as a tuba player. He will be working with Dr. Christopher Ewing.
