Joe Palmer taught in the English Department at Purdue from 1969 to his retirement in 2010. His specialties were The Novel Genre; 18th, 19th, 20th Centuries; Film Studies; and Fiction Writing. During his tenure at Purdue he published 12 books plus numerous journal and journalistic articles. Besides his academic works of Literary and Film Criticism, he has published 7 novels thus far with two more forthcoming. His novels have been optioned (though not as yet produced) for Film and TV productions, have been chosen as selections by numerous national book clubs, and have been translated into Spanish and Japanese. As a teacher at Purdue he received numerous departmental, Liberal Arts school, and university-wide teaching awards including The Murphy Award. He is a member of the Purdue University Book of Great Teachers. As a member of the English department he served for 10 years as one of the Founders and Chair of the departmental Job Placement Committee, as Editor of the journal Modern Fiction Studies, and as Director of Graduate Studies. He continues to reside and write in West Lafayette, IN.
