Sharra Vostral
Sharra Vostral, associate professor of history, has received a Science, Technology, and Society Scholars Award of $133,023 from the National Science Foundation. The grant, titled “Toxic Shock Syndrome, Tampon Technology, and Testing,” will go toward research about labeling on tampon boxes for a chapter of Sharra’s book, Constructing TSS: Tampons, Women’s Bodies and the Public Consumption of Disease. Sharra’s book is currently under contract with NYU Press, and her work on tampon history and technology was also recently featured in The Atlantic.
