Nusta Carranza Ko
Please join me in congratulating Nusta Carranza Ko, a graduate student in the Department of Political Science, who was inducted as an Associate Fellow of the Purdue University Teaching Academy, the only graduate student this year to receive this distinction.
Nusta’s classroom teaching reflects her research interests in the influence of international norms on state behavior, particularly in the areas of human rights in Latin American and South Korea. She emphasizes active learning in her classes and regularly employs creative pedagogies, including simulations, role playing, art projects, case methods, and discussions.
Nusta has won grants and fellowships to support her dissertation research ("Revisiting Transitional Justice and the Spiral Model: International Human Rights Norms"), including a prestigious Purdue Research Foundation Fellowship and the department’s Frank L. Wilson Award for Field Research.
In addition, Nusta has won many teaching awards. She received the department’s Outstanding Independent Instructor Award in both 2013 and 2014. She earned a Graduate Teaching Certificate from Purdue’s Center for Instructional Excellence in 2014 and is currently completing the Advanced Graduate Teaching Certificate.
Nusta was presented to the Teaching Academy today, and joins the ranks of the largest entity of recognized excellent teachers at Purdue University.
