Model UN Participants
Please join me in congratulating political science students students Tatiana Brown, Melissa Deach, Jasmine Edison, Adam Hassanein, and Caelum Mroczek, as well as Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science Natasha Duncan, for their participation in the 2015 Model United Nations at the Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia. Approximately 300 students from 25 countries participated on various committees that engaged them in the discussion of current, historic, and futuristic topics that influence the world we live in.
All five students are members of Purdue’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. Their specific assignments at the Model UN included representing Rwanda, the Philippines, and El Salvador on issues ranging from decolonization to matters on women, education, and security in the African Union. One student served on a U.S. Supreme Court committee, considering the case of Japanese-Americans in internment camps during World War II (Korematsu v. the United States). Congratulations to Tatiana, Melissa, Jasmine, Adam, and Caelum for interacting with students from around the world to address global issues, and to Dr. Duncan and the Department of Political Science for supporting Liberal Arts undergraduates in an opportunity to build their skills as global citizens.
