Randy Roberts
Please join me in congratulating Distinguished Professor of History Randy Roberts on his new book, Blood Brothers: The Fatal Friendship Between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X, written in collaboration with Randy’s colleague Johnny Smith, assistant professor of American history at Georgia Tech. Published by Basic Books, Blood Brothers details the friendship between the boxer and the Nation of Islam’s most famous minister, initially hidden from the press for fear of jeopardizing Ali’s career. Roberts and Smith combed FBI files, the personal papers of Malcolm X and his biographer Alex Haley, and media reports to piece together the story of the friendship between two national icons.
Blood Brothers was reviewed in Publishers Weekly, earned starred reviews in Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and Library Journal, and received featured reviews in The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Dallas Morning News, and the National Review. Randy was interviewed about the book for The Economist and National Public Radio, and later this month he’ll talk with Kojo Nnamdi, host of the Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU at American University. The book was also excerpted at Time.com, Literary Hub, and Alternet.
Congratulations, Professor Roberts!
