Arkady Plotnitsky
Please join me in congratulating Arkady Plotnitsky, who was recently named a distinguished professor of English by Purdue’s Board of Trustees.
Arkady has been the director of the Theory and Cultural Studies Program since 1999. He specializes in critical and cultural theory, British and European romanticism, continental philosophy, modernism and postmodernism, and relations among literature, philosophy, and science. He was a University Faculty Scholar from 2001–2006 and a fellow of the Center for Humanistic Studies at Purdue in 2011. He also received the College of Liberal Arts Discovery Excellence in the Humanities Award in 2014. He has written seven books and co-edited two others.
In November 2015, Arkady was invited to speak at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada. He delivered the lecture “Technology as Foundation, from The Quantum Informational Viewpoint: The Future (and Some Past) of Quantum Theory after The Higgs Boson,” and met with the Institute’s faculty members, who include some of the leading theoretical physicists and philosophers of physics in the world.
A reception celebrating Arkady’s distinguished professorship will be held on Thursday, January 28, from 4–5:30 pm in the Lafayette Room of the Purdue Memorial Union. Please join us to congratulate the College’s newest distinguished professor, Arkady Plotnitsky.
