Laura Zanotti

Please join me in congratulating Laura Zanotti, associate professor of anthropology for her recently published book, Radical Territories in the Brazilian Amazon: The Kayapó's Fight for Just Livelihoods (The University of Arizona Press, 2016).

Laura's work sheds light on the creative and groundbreaking efforts Kayapó peoples deploy to protect their lands and livelihoods. Weaving together anthropological and ethnographic research with personal interactions with the Kayapó, Laura tells the story of activism and justice in the Brazilian Amazon, and how Kayapó communities are using diverse pathways to make a sustainable future for their peoples and lands.

Laura's areas of specialization include decolonization, feminist political ecology, and conservation and her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation. Besides her research, Laura is a dedicated faculty member who provides both graduate and undergraduate Purdue students meaningful experiences. Laura won the Department of Anthropology Excellence in Teaching Award in 2013 and was the recipient of the Faculty Appreciation Award in American Studies in 2012.

Congratulations, Dr. Zanotti!
