Jean Beaman
Please join me in congratulating Jean Beaman, assistant professor of sociology, for receiving a 2017-2018 grant through the Clifford B. Kinley Trust. Jean’s proposal for this award is called, “From Ferguson to France: Understanding Black Lives Matter in France.”
She is also a faculty affiliate in the African-American Studies and Research Center and the Global Studies program. Her first book will be published in September, Citizen Outsider: Children of North African Immigrants in France (University of California Press). The book is an ethnographic examination of France’s North African second-generation and issues of upward social mobility, race and ethnicity, and cultural citizenship.
Jean’s other research and teaching interests consist of urban sociology, sociology of culture, HIV/AIDS, international migration and ethnography, and qualitative methods.
Congratulations, Professor Beaman!
