Kathryn Brownell
Please join me in congratulating Kathryn Cramer Brownell, assistant professor in the Department of History and American Studies, for publishing “Ideological Plugola,” “Elitist Gossip,” and the "Need for Cable Television,” in Media Nation: The Political History of News in Modern America (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2017).
From the creation of newspapers with national reach in the late nineteenth century to the lightning-fast dispatches and debates of today's Internet, the media have played an enormous role in modern American politics. Scholars such as Katie have come together to explore the importance of the relationship between political culture and the news media. Katie's entries into this book will be her first major contributions to scholarly literature about the cable news industry.
Congratulations, Dr. Brownell!
