Arkady Plotnitsky
Please join me in congratulating Arkady Plotnitsky, professor of English and philosophy and literature, on the publication of his most recent book, The Principles of Quantum Theory, From Planck’s Quanta to the Higgs Boson (Springer Publishing).
The book offers an analysis of the concept of principle and the role of principles in foundational thinking in quantum theory. It addresses the relationships between the philosophy of quantum theory and the philosophy of probability, and argues for the essential role of these relationships in our understanding of quantum theory.
Among Arkady’s other works are The Knowable and the Unknowable: Modern Science, Nonclassical Thought, and the "Two Cultures;" Reading Bohr: Physics and Philosophy; Epistemology and Probability; and Niels Bohr and Complementarity: An Introduction. He is also the co-editor of (with B. H. Smith) of Mathematics, Science, and Postclassical Theory and (with T. Rajan) Idealism Without Absolutes: Philosophy and Romantic Culture. Arkady is the co-director of the Philosophy and Literature Program at Purdue. He is currently working on two projects: one regarding the relationships between Gilles Deleuze and modern mathematics, and the second on Romanticism, science, and probability.
