Donald Platt

Please join me in congratulating Donald Platt, professor of English, on his newest book: Man Praying (Parlor Press, 2017).

Don’s book consists of various poems that describe a dying father-in-law, the AIDS epidemic, maimed World War I veterans, Caravaggio's painting of the beheading of St. John the Baptist (his largest canvas), and a gay boxer who knocks out and kills the opponent who has called him a faggot at the weigh-in.

He is also the author of Tornadoesque (CavanKerry Press, 2016), Dirt Angels (New Issues Press, 2009), My Father Says Grace (University of Arkansas Press, 2007), Cloud Atlas (Purdue University Press, 2002), and Fresh Peaches, Fireworks, & Guns (Purdue University Press, 1994). In addition, Don is a recipient of two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, three Pushcart Prizes, the Paumanok Poetry Prize, the “Discovery”/The Nation Prize, two Verna Emery Poetry Prizes, and the Center for Book Arts Chapbook Prize.

Congratulations, Professor Platt!
