Maria Venetis
Please join me in congratulating Maria Venetis, associate professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication, and her co-authors Helen Lillie and Skye Chernichky-Karcher, for winning the 2019 Lorene Burkhart Award for Excellence in Research about Families.
Maria and Helen will be recognized as the Burkhart Award winner at the Center for Families Award Breakfast on April 4.
Maria’s research team published an article, titled “He Would Never Let Me Just Give Up,” that appeared in the journal Health Communication in 2018. The article “offers practical application for creating a supportive communicative environment for breast cancer survivors and their families, theoretical implications for family resilience communication, and provides a platform for an ongoing program of family research,” according to the team’s award nomination letter.
Purdue created the Burkhart Award in 2013 to recognize outstanding family research being conducted by faculty members. In addition to the award, the winner receives a $500 prize. The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships also recognizes the award winner each fall at the Excellence in Research Awards Dinner.
Congratulations, Dr. Venetis!
